Orome Valar DT45 Carbon Rim Brake Wheelset – Last Set
The Orome Valar DT45 is a 45mm carbon rim brake wheelset built with the bits that actually matter: DT Swiss 240 hubs, Sapim CX-Ray spokes, Toray T800 carbon rims, and a tubeless-compatible clincher setup.
They’re light, stiff, fast enough for proper road riding, and a good upgrade if your current wheels are stock alloy, tired, heavy, or just a bit uninspiring.
And yes — this is the last set we’ve got. FREE SHIPPING in NZ.
Why bother upgrading your wheels?
Because wheels are one of the few upgrades you actually feel.
A lighter, stiffer carbon wheelset can make your bike pick up speed better, hold pace more easily, and feel less sluggish when you’re climbing, accelerating, or rolling along on the flat.
You don’t need a new bike every time the industry decides rim brakes are “old”. A good rim brake bike with better wheels is still a very nice thing to ride.
What makes these worth looking at?
DT Swiss 240 hubs
This is the big one.
Plenty of carbon wheels look good on paper, but the hubs are where some brands quietly save money. These come with DT Swiss 240 hubs, which are reliable, proven, and a proper step up from generic hubsets.
45mm carbon rims
45mm is a good all-round road depth. Aero enough to feel quick, but not so deep that you feel like you’re being shoved sideways every time the wind picks up.
Good for bunch rides, solo rides, rolling roads, flatter routes, and general fast road use.
Sapim CX-Ray spokes
Again, not no-name filler. Sapim CX-Ray spokes are light, strong and commonly used on quality wheel builds.
Tubeless-compatible clincher
Run them with tubes, or set them up tubeless if that’s your thing. The 19mm internal width works well with modern road tyre sizes, especially if you’re running something in the 25–30mm range.
Good for
Upgrading a rim brake road bike
Replacing heavy stock wheels
Getting a faster feel without buying a new bike
Riders who still like their rim brake setup
Road riding, bunch rides and training
Anyone who wants quality hubs, not mystery hubs

Trev’s take
Good rim brake wheelsets are getting harder to find, especially ones with decent hubs.
These are light, fast-feeling and built with proper parts — DT Swiss 240 hubs and Sapim CX-Ray spokes being the main reason they’re worth a look.
If your rim brake bike is still a good bike, don’t write it off. Put better wheels on it and it’ll probably feel like a different machine.
Only one set left. Rim brake only. When it’s gone, that’s it.
